Conducted Medicaid Awareness Workshops
Under the New York Medicaid Choice Education Project, AWCD worked in collaboration with other 26 organizations throughout five boroughs of New York City. A combined effort to address the education of the Medicaid consumers could bring better impact in the lives of the Medicaid consumers.
From June to December 2003, AWCD organized community education workshops from 4- 5 PM on every Saturday (except public holidays) at Delhi Palace at 74th Street at Roosevelt Avenue for the Medicaid consumers. The purpose of the workshop was to help Medicaid consumers understand the changes in the Medicaid program, what Medicaid Health Plans are, HIV Special Needs Plans (HIV SNPs), and how to choose the best health plan for them and their families. AWCD outreached around a thousand Medicaid consumers indirectly and served around 200 consumers directly by way of enrollment to different health plans and educating them on the changes of Medicaid program. The New York Medicaid Choice Education Project provided one-on-one counseling to Medicaid consumers. This project was very closely monitored by the NYC Human Resource Administration, NY State Dept. of Health, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Community Service Society of New York to ensure the best education to the consumers.
Under this program, AWCD served many people living with HIV/AIDS by educating them on HIV/AIDS Special Needs Program under the New York Medicaid Choice Education project. Under this plan, people living HIV/AIDS could select their Primary Care Provider, a specialist in HIV/AIDS management and received individual counseling and attention to address the individual needs.
